1. Create an inviting space. This can be achieved through the selection of large comfortable seating, ambient lighting, fragrant flowers and plants, shaded areas and clearing out the clutter. Deep seating such as lounge chairs, loungers, or chaises allow you to stretch out and relax. If seating is comfortable, you’re more likely to curl up in your backyard oasis. Intentionally placed lighting can be used for designated dining areas, lighting pathways, or lounging. Fragrant plants add an element of comfort. Shaded areas will keep you and your guests comfortable on those hotter days and clearing away the clutter will help make your backyard oasis more inviting.

2. Boost visual appeal. Use pops of colour to add an element of visual appeal. This can be done by selecting throw-pillows and blanket to your outdoor furniture. The selection of your garden plants, accent sculptures and other visual elements such as water features, sensory pathways and firepit areas can help create a level of excitement and imagination.

3. Have a variety of seating options. You want you and your guests to feel welcome. Benches, chairs, and even pint-size stools. As many choices as you can include will help family and friends enjoy being in your backyard. Chairs are a more flexible option to move around, pull two together for a quiet chat or add extras around the table for a big dinner. Make sure you create gathering areas for friends and family to eat, chat, or just mingle.
