Alberta has been home for over 20 years now and I simply love this place! The moment I arrived, I knew I was home!
I grew up in a small town in Ontario (Erin) with less than 2,500 people at the time. Calgary gave me that same small town feeling with all the big city amenities. Over the past 20 years I’ve watched the skyline change and city grow, but I still get that same small town feeling of community here.
I first moved across the country back in 2002. Like most I came for work. Vancouver was the destination; the food scene was the draw. I had recently graduated from culinary school (the Stratford Chef School) and acquired my red seal as a chef. Looking for new challenges, Vancouver was the place to be, at least for a year.
After a short stint at the Opus Hotel in Vancouver, seasonal work took me to the Yukon, Dawson City to be exact. Working at one of Holland America’s land-based hotels I met a man who said I’d be moving to Alberta to work at the prestigious Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. As crazy as I thought the idea was, it happened. I was employed by Fairmont for several years and assisted at multiple locations, including Lake Louise (where I began), Banff Springs Hotel, Royal York, and the Fairmont Southampton. A few years later, after settling in Canmore, I took a job as the Sous Chef at the renowned Silvertip Resort golf club. There, I developed most of their fine dining menus and banquet menus for the newly built banquet facility. This was home for about 2 years.
Feeling accomplished in my endeavours, I was slowly transitioning and looking for my next challenge. That’s what brought me to Calgary.
At the time I was working as a personal trainer and working toward my EMT in hopes of being accepted in the paramedic program. Somewhere along the line, whilst training clients who worked for the Calgary Police Service, they had convinced me I should apply. I did, and much to my surprise I was accepted into the screening program and application process. It took over a year and, in that time, I started working for a commercial real estate company (Aspen Properties). I was deferred from the CPS and told to reapply in a year. I was lucky, it was that deferral and a mentor who prompted me to pursue a career in real estate.
I worked my way up from the bottom, learning all aspects of operations. During that period, I obtained my RPA (Real Property Administrator) in record time. After several years, multiple building acquisitions, and working with a few different management companies, I spent nearly a decade in commercial real estate on the property owner side before transitioning to a career in sales.
Today I’ve been at Century 21 Bamber Realty for over 7 years. I’m licensed across all areas of real estate, and I love what I do!
Helping people with one of the most important decisions in their life is a humbling honour that I wouldn’t change for the world. I’ve been on our office’s top 10 list in some of the most challenging markets (covid) and have stood the test of time in this fiercely competitive and unforgiving industry. I work with grace and integrity, and I take my job very seriously. Looking after my clients to the highest of standards, is my top priority.
I’m an avid hiker, a devoted volunteer and community advocate, woodworking hobbyist, and proud owner of a French Bulldog named Matilda.
Through the years, I’ve cultivated a deep understanding of the industry and the people it serves. My journey has been one of constant growth and reinvention—moving from culinary arts to hospitality, diving into the fitness and paramedicine field, and ultimately finding my true calling in real estate. Each chapter of my life has taught me invaluable lessons about resilience, adaptability, and the importance of connecting with people on a genuine level.
Whether it was creating memorable dining experiences as a chef or guiding clients through the complexities of property transactions, I’ve always strived to deliver excellence. It is this commitment that drives me every day—to ensure my clients feel supported, informed, and truly cared for in every step of their journey. My story is a testament to the belief that our paths may take unexpected turns, but every decision, challenge, and opportunity helps shape who we are and what we bring to those we serve.
If you see me out and about, come say hi! I’d love to connect!
Sincerely,
Roddrick
